Wide Website

FAQs

Is this the widest website ever?

No. But it is very very wide. It is 930,576,223 pixels wide, which seems to be the maximum div width that Firefox can handle on Windows. To put this number into perspective, on a 17 inch monitor with the popular resolution 1024x768 this equates to over 300km.

Are you a Linux user? I am, and you may have noticed that this page isn't at all wide in Linux, the maximum div size that Firefox can handle on Linux is a much less impressive 71,582,788 pixels, which is only 24km.. I've tried this on Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 i386 using IceWeasel, I suspect it could possibly be different on 64 bit, please let me know if it is.

Are there any other wide websites on the web?

Yes, there are plenty.

Here's a few:

* Population, one person one pixel - Fantastic! Very cool idea, very useful illustration.

* Hydrogen aton scale model - A page that uses its width for illustrative purposes.

* Proportional Representation of the Solar System - Very nice page, that once again uses its width for illustrative purposes, 1.8 kilometers wide.

* Bluesfear Worm - Very cool, and very aesthetically pleasing wide Web page. A must see!

* A page that claims to be infinite - But isn't... It is clever though.

* The Mile Wall - Page width commercialized.

* GoThere/San Diego/Boardwalk - Claims to be the world's widest Webpage. But it isn't even close!
